Tut’s Story – 2025 Big Match

Tut was adopted thirteen years ago from the Austin Animal Center as an adorable young puppy, but when he found himself back in the shelter in October 2024, his family did not come for him. On intake, he weighed only 13 pounds and had thin hair, goopy eyes, and a runny nose. He was itchy all over. The shelter reported that he was covered in fleas and ticks. He feared being picked up and ran away from anyone trying to pet him. I think he was on the streets for several months and learned to avoid people to protect himself. The first few days he was with me, he slept 15 to 20 hours each day. Today, although his health is still fragile, he appears to be gaining weight. Because he has limited vision due to cataracts, is anemic, and has a 3/5 heart murmur, we decided it would be best to allow him to enjoy the remainder of his days in a safe, happy, and comfortable environment. Over the last three weeks since his rescue, he has come out of his shell enough to allow me to pick him up and even bathe him. He even asks for pets! He was defeated, sad, and scared when he came to live with me. Today he looks forward to meal times, romping in the big yard, and sleeping on soft beds. Hopefully, our care and commitment will erase memories of the bad times before he came to our rescue. We just adore him! ~ Diane, foster mom
